This is a similar simulation to the spray simulation given in the section on multiphase flow. However, here the animation shows the auto-ignition
and combustion. The case is a constant volume spray bomb with initial conditions 80 bar 965 K with 10.31 mg of n-Heptane injected in 2.133 ms.
Physics and modelling
The basic code is previously described in the spray simulation. The diesel spray models are contained in their own dieselSpray library. The user may
select a range of options at run time:
Atomization: constant atomization model,
Breakup: no breakup, Reitz-Diwakar, Reitz model with Kelvin-Helmholtz and Raleigh-Taylor instability effects, TAB model,
Collision: no collision, trajectory model, O’Rourke model,
Dispersion: no dispersion, standard dispersion model,
Drag: standard model,
Evaporation: no evaporation, standard model,
Heat transfer: Ranz-Marshall model,
Wall interaction: reflect and remove models,
Animations
The left animation shows the flow velocity. The centre animation shows the temperature ranging from 500 K (blue) to 3000 K (red). The right animation shows
spray particle packets, later joined by a grey iso-surface indicating the temperature at 1500 K.
