Settling of sediment in a tank

Settling tank
Click image to view the animation

Problem description
Settling of sediment in a tank. Flow enters at the left side of the geometry (near the baffles). Sediment settles at the base of the tank and is extracted through the base of the hopper below the inlet. The sediment that settles on the base of the tank is contiuously scraped towards the hopper.
Physics and modelling
The mathematical model used in this simulation is described in the Thesis by Brennan.
Animations
The animation shows the evolution of a sediment layer along the base of the tank. The sediment layer approached a steady-state in which the introduction of sediment at the inlet is balanced by its extraction through the hopper.
